An autobiographical story that unfolds during the closing days of the Ottoman Empire. The boys (the "milk twins" of the title), one a Sephardic Jew and the other a Muslim, grow up in the Turkey of the turn of the century. By 1910 political turmoil has come to their lives and Albert is forced to leave his homeland for the United States. When this is written Albert is 102 years old and feels that he is perhaps the only person left who can testify to they truth about the Turkey of his boyhood.
